The truth about the West Bank

Occasionally (mostly by accident), I hear or read about someone damning Israel for its mistreatment of the Palestinians in the “occupied territories” of Gaza and the West Bank.

If an idea, opinion or belief, regardless if it is morally wrong or untrue, is proclaimed long enough, it will eventually be believed by the masses as truth and fact.

Take pre-WW2 Germany for example. An upright nation, became morally and ethically corrupt solely by the clever use of Hitler’s propaganda machine. Point taken.

Back to Israel. I am naive enough to believe that most people who condemn Israel’s treatment of the Gaza/West Bank situation aren’t Jew hating fascists… Hopefully they are simply misinformed.  Victims themselves of believing the lie that has been retold for decades.

So, for all those that do not wish to be ignorant of the facts, nor guilty of sounding silly by reinforcing historical error… please take 6 minutes to educate yourself.  Peace.

  3. I should have been able to predict the quality of arguments and biased viewpoint in the video from the statement “An upright nation, became morally and ethically corrupt solely by the clever use of Hitler’s propaganda machine. Point taken.”
That you have agreed with your own point inferring that everyone else automatically does should have been sign enough.
Still to “educate” myself I viewed the video.
I really liked the cartoons depicting Palestinians as crazy AK-47 firing war mongers. Clearly this is going to be an unbiased and factual account.
The argument that nothing Israel does is illegal because Palestine didnt exist before 1967 sounds pretty valid, except that 20 years before that Israel didnt exist either.
Now Palestine is the bad guy because they are trying to take land for themselves by force. Israel must be in the right though, because they took land for themselves by…someone else’s force. To paraphrase the video “the ottoman empire owned all of the land until it was defeated in WW1. oh, and destroying countries is pretty illegal”. So the Ottoman Empire got ousted by force, Israel moved in. No worries. Palestine tries to move in by force, and they are gun toting devil spawn.
Thank you so much for educating the victims of misinformation with this completely unbiased well thought out youtube video from the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
    Point Taken.

    • Great to read your viewpoint Jimbob. I guess there really is no such thing as a completely unbiased opinion ;-)

I’m definately not saying that all Israel does is right and ethical either…

The main point is, and you would have to agree, that most that people are misinformed as to the true historical facts of the conflict, and many are very quick to condemn Israel when they really have no idea.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to vist the blog, and even though we may disagree, it is great to have your your feedback ;-).

  4. I agree with your main point then, however let’s not kid ourselves into suggesting a 6 minute racist YouTube propaganda video (and I hate the overused word propaganda but in this case it is accurate) is close to approaching the truth. I don’t blame Jews any more than any other people – I have never been part of a people without a home or had to fight for my home so to blame would be arrogance in the extreme.
The point I would make is to be very careful about “truth”, it is generally defined by the person with the biggest guns (or in this case the person with the friend with the biggest gun).
One man’s terrorism is another man’s revolution is another man’s self defense. This isn’t a game of cops and robbers where one party is obviously in the moral wrong. It is much more a game of cowboys and Indians, with 2 sides seemingly unable to come to grips with the other persons point of view.
The more important issue of morality at question in my mind is what price does humanity have to pay for someone to be declared “right”. Surely the life of a single son, daughter, brother, sister, mother or father is eternally more valuable than having a history book declare a winner and a loser?
